Here’s the best technique for a smooth, comfortable fit every time:
1️⃣ Start with the big toe Slip your big toe fully into its dedicated pocket first. Push it in until the tip of the toe reaches the end of the pocket. This anchors the entire sock and keeps the other pockets from twisting.
2️⃣ Insert the remaining toes one at a time Work from the big toe outward (or from the little toe inward—whichever feels more natural). Use the fingers of your opposite hand to hold the next empty pocket open, and guide each toe in completely before moving to the next. If a toe is stubborn or curled, gently straighten it with your fingers while sliding the fabric over it. Don’t force it—a slight rocking motion often helps.
3️⃣ Pull the sock over the rest of the foot Once all five toes are seated, gradually un-bunch the sock and, using the heel tab, pull it up over the foot to the desired height on your ankle or calf.
4️⃣ Final check Run your fingers along each toe from base to tip to make sure no fabric is folded under or twisted. Using both hands (one holding the pocket open while the other guides the toe) is faster and much more accurate than trying to do it with one hand.
The first few times may take a little longer, but after just three or four successful puts-ons, most people develop a smooth 30–60 second routine. Doing it at the same time each day builds muscle memory quickly!
Once your NeuroSox are on correctly, you’ll feel the individual toe separation, improved ground feel, and the full benefit of the grip and compression features. The socks will also naturally stretch to fit your foot.
Important tip when wearing with shoes: To properly spread (splay) your toes, pair your NeuroSox with shoes that have a wide toe box. Avoid narrow athletic shoes, which can cause discomfort and limit the benefits.
Why wide toe box matters with five-toe socks
Five-toe socks encourage natural toe splay. Narrow shoes compress the toes back together, which reduces the benefits (better ground feel, balance, and reduced pressure). A properly roomy toe box lets the toes stay separated while still giving a secure overall fit.
Important Shoe fitting tips with five-toe socks
- Always try shoes with the NeuroSox on. The socks take a bit more volume than regular socks.
- Prioritize width in the forefoot/toe area, not just overall width labeling. Some “wide” shoes are mainly wider in the midfoot.
- Look for shoes with a rounded or anatomical toe shape rather than a sharply tapered one.
- Removable insoles are a plus (easier to adjust volume or add custom orthotics if needed).
- Avoid aggressive rocker soles if balance or fall risk is a concern — a more level, stable platform is usually better.
